Hi All,

Dear All,

Apologies for cross posting. This job opportunity might be of interest to some of you, or people you know. Please do forward it on.

We’re looking to appoint a lecturer for 4 years to research and teach in palaeoclimatology and low temperature geochemistry. This is a backfill for my ARC Future Fellowship, so the new recruit would have plenty of support. It would be great if they were able to collaborate on my fellowship (isotopes and Australian climate through the last 2000 years) as I could help out with some funding, samples and infrastructural support. However, working with me is not an essential criterion – we’re looking for the best person out there who can drive their own research agenda.

Our labs contain most of the standard Earth Science equipment (sediment labs, rock cutting, microscopes). Our isotope lab houses four IRMS – measuring clumped isotopes, oxygen isotopes in silicates, carbonates, phosphates and organics, CNS on organics. We also have a TIMS (measuring Sr, Cr, Pb, Nd and more), XRD, GC-MS (x 3) as well as access to ICP-MS, MC-ICP-MS and various other equipment housed elsewhere. There’s also the Australian Centre for Ancient DNA, as well as potential collaborators down the road at Flinders, UniSA and CSIRO.

The teaching requirements are fairly straightforward – I think it’ll be equivalent to ~1.5 courses per year. You’ll have access to existing lecture material, though you may want to modify the content. We have an outstanding undergraduate cohort – I think one of the largest in Earth Sciences in Australia – many of whom have gone on to great things with the AQUA community. You’ll be encouraged to supervise Honours and PhD students.

We hope the person can start by February next year.

If you’ve any questions, please just sing out.

Best wishes

Jon
