Hi all,

Apologies for cross posting, but I’d like to advertise 2 fully funded PhD scholarships available here at Adelaide Uni to work on climate and environmental change through the last 2000 years, using isotopes and/or diatoms in lake sediments in southern Australia https://earthworks-jobs.com/climate/adelaide240411/n.
The projects are linked to my ARC Future Fellowship, with an aim to better constrain climate variability and the drivers of multi-decadal extremes in droughts/floods/fires. The project would suit someone interested in climate and environmental change, or aquatic ecology.

Applications are welcome from either domestic (Australian) or international candidates. They are due (via Earthworks) on 30/May/2024. Selected candidates would then need to be approved for enrolment through the standard university process. You must be able to commence the PhD here in Adelaide before 31/December/2024.

Project #1 will primarily involve oxygen isotope analysis, from any/all of carbonates (incl. ostracods), diatom silica or cellulose, with sites from Kangaroo Island (SA) and south-west WA.

Project #2, with John Tibby, will focus on diatom species analysis, including the analysis of modern and sedimentary diatom assemblages.

Please forward this to any Honours or Masters students you think might be interested, and feel free to encourage them to ask me or John any questions if they have them.

Best wishes

Jon
