Dear all,

I am writing to ask if you could include the ad for a postdoc opportunity below into our next newsletter or post this via the AQUA mailing list please?

Thanks a lot and let me know any questions,
Cheers

The VirtuaLakes Group based at the ITES (Institut Terre & Environnement de Strasbourg Strasbourg, France) is seeking highly motivated post-doctoral students to develop collaborative funding proposals for submission to the Horizon Europe Marie program Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowship in the field “Lacustrine Sedimentology & Numerical Modelling”:

Offer description: Postdoc Opportunity in Lacustrine Dynamics: Study the future of lakes through numerical modeling and satellite imagery. Join an innovative project aimed at predicting the evolution of lacustrine systems in a changing climate.
The Vision
Lakes are vital to biodiversity and the livelihoods of one billion people, yet only a very fewof the world's 117,000 largest lakes have been scientifically studied. In a context of gobal changes, the lack of predictive data leaves communities and policymakers vulnerable to risks like flooding, erosion, pollution, and water scarcity. The VirtuaLakes group is bridging this gap. We are shifting the focus from retrospective conservation to forward-looking, predictive science.
The Project: "The Future of Lakes"
We are seeking an ambitious early-career scientist to join us in developing a data-driven framework to simulate how lakes evolve. Our goal is to transform physical mechanisms and environmental drivers into actionable insights for climate resilience and sustainable management.
Your Role:

  *
Explore sedimentary processes and hydro-dynamics using field observations, satellite imagery, and/or numerical simulations.
  *
Leverage our innovative open-source modeling workflow to identify key drivers (wind, runoff, land-use) and their societal impacts.
  *
Contribute to a global understanding of lakes across all climatic and geographic contexts.

Candidate Profile

  *
PhD in Geosciences, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
  *
Strong interest in lacustrine systems and sedimentary processes.
  *
Expertise in numerical modeling, remote sensing, or physical sedimentology.
  *
Driven by the desire to solve complex environmental challenges with global relevance.
