Research Opportunity at the State, Society & Governance in Melanesia Program

Digital Technologies Research Fellow

Position Description: Through this appointment SSGM seeks to expand and deepen our engagement with social media and new technologies, and to build a program of research that investigates the uptake and utilisation of digital technologies in Melanesia and the broader Pacific, and how these might enhance political participation and development outcomes.

The appointee will be expected to work with the SSGM Program Manager (Research Communication and Training) to enhance and promote the research, outreach and teaching undertaken by SSGM, through the design, production and dissemination of high-quality materials that promote the research and teaching of SSGM within the university and beyond, and by developing the capacity of SSGM staff to incorporate social media and new technologies in their outreach and teaching whilst improving SSGM’s online profile.

The successful applicant will also be expected to conduct quality independent research concerning the uptake and utilisation of digital technologies in Melanesia and the broader Pacific. In addition to its scholarly goals, SSGM maintains a strong commitment to active engagement with policy communities in the region and Australia.

The SSGM Digital Technologies Research Fellow will report to the SSGM Convenor although will work closely with and provide authoritative advice to Program Manager (Research Communication and Training) and to the SSGM Outreach and Teaching Committees. The role will involve international travel to the region and may involve working outside normal working hours.
