Dear Colleagas
In appreciation and celebration of food innovations happening in
Timor-Leste including the Grassroots Food Network (*Rede ba hahan*) we are
proposing to hold an event in Melbourne. We want to discuss new ideas and
research about food justice and food sovereignty in Timor-Leste as well as
new approaches to tackling malnutrition and the network of new
co-operatives, enterprises, entrepreneurs, and their innovations and if
there is anything we here in Australia can offer.

We are planning to have speakers and hands-on food workshops to prepare and
then eat and drink:
· Katupa
· Cassava leaves
· Budu
· Timorese Coffee
If you are interested in contributing indigenous Timorese food to this
event or participating or volunteering please let us know.
We also hope to include Timorese musicians and cultural groups so please
let us know if you would like to come and participate.

"The purpose of anthropology is to make the world safe for human
differences." – Ruth Benedict
Ahmed (2014) – views “self-care as warfare.” That is, cultivating space to
care for ourselves, our colleagues, and our students is, in fact, a
political activity.
Monash University's Australian campuses are proudly on Kulin land. We pay
respect to the Kulin people, including elders past and present.
I live on the stolen lands of the Boon Wurrung and pay my respects to the
traditional owners, the Yaluk-ut Weelam Clan and acknowledge that claims to
sovereignty were never ceded.
