Sessional appointment in history of science with a focus on the life
sciences

The History of Science and Technology Programme at the University of King's
College invites applications for a one-year, full-time sessional appointment
(with the possibility of renewal for two more years, subject to review and
budgetary approval) in History and Philosophy of Science and/or Science and
Technology Studies commencing 1 August 2007. The appointment will be at
the rank of (visiting) Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will
teach
in an interdisciplinary, combined honours programme offered jointly by the
University of King's College and Dalhousie University. Our programme is
devoted
to the history, philosophy, sociology and cultural place of Western science
and
technology. It is also the central hub of a Canadian network of history and
philosophy of science researchers supported by the Social Science and
Humanities Research Council of Canada. Preference will be given to those
whose
teaching interests focus on the history of the life sciences and the study
of
ecology and the environment in the modern period (post-Enlightenment to
contemporary world) and who can teach classes cross-listed with the
Contemporary Studies Programme at King's College and Dalhousie University.
The
successful candidate will teach a number of the classes already offered
by the programme (including "The Darwinian Revolution", "Bio-Politics",
"Ghosts
in the Machine") as well as construct one or two new classes with at least
one
of these being on ecology and the environment.
