Dear colleagues,

First time using this list so a quick introduction: I’m one of the new hires in SPIR, and glad to be among you. My work is broadly in gender and international politics, recently with a critical focus on governance initiatives.

As part of some funding I have we’re advertising for a 12-month postdoc on the theme of ‘Governing Masculinity’. That is to say, for someone to work alongside me in studying efforts by security, development and humanitarian actors to influence, reform, abolish or otherwise influence ‘masculinity’, however defined, in conflict-affected contexts. Think public health programmes to reduce violence against women, civil society promotions of positive masculinity, military training to instruct partner forces in proper martial maleness, United Nations policy frameworks that target ’toxic’ masculinity, and so on.

The individual would have a free hand to pursue their own research within that theme, and importantly would not be acting as a research assistant to me (despite the university-mandated job title). Unfortunately the ad is only live for two weeks, and the post is to begin in January 2023 or very soon thereafter. So I’d be grateful if you could circulate to anyone you think fits the bill.
