Dear all,

We are pleased to inform you that, in collaboration with Sunrise Alliance, we are organizing a Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) on “Security, Ethnography and Discourse”, which will take place at European University Cyprus, from 18–22 October 2026, complemented by two online sessions.

The programme brings together sociolinguistic perspectives on language and communicative practices, anthropological approaches to the study of situated social practices, and insights from the fields of International Relations (IR) and Security Studies. Designed for doctoral students and early-career researchers, it offers interactive sessions that combine empirical data with theoretical perspectives from IR, Anthropology, and Sociolinguistics.

The course is intended both for social science researchers interested in the everyday dimensions and communicative dynamics of phenomena such as surveillance, militarism, borders, and states of exception, and for language researchers seeking to understand how contemporary communicative practices are increasingly shaped by security concerns.

For participants from European universities participating in the Erasmus+ programme, travel and mobility funding for the in-person component in Cyprus will be available through Erasmus+, subject to approval and the procedures of their home institution.

Deadline of applications: August 23rd

Application procedure:

Those interested should complete the attached application and send it to co.charalambous at euc.ac.cy<mailto:co.charalambous at euc.ac.cy> by August 23rd. As places are limited, participation in the programme will be subject to a selection process. Applicants will be evaluated based on the quality and relevance of their research interests and the potential contribution of the programme to their ongoing or future research. Given the Erasmus+ funding framework under which the programme is offered, priority will be given to candidates who are eligible for Erasmus+ mobility funding through their home institution.

Successful participants will be notified by the 4th September.

We look forward to welcoming participants from across disciplines and institutions.

Regards,

The instructors team
