[IntLawProfessors] More on UP from Opinio Juris

Hi all,

This is not how I expected to make my first post to the listserv, but here it goes ...

I shared the exchange on the Philippines dispute with a Philippine colleague, Paula Defensor Knack (cc'd). She has some additional perspectives that she posted in response to the Opinio Juris blog article (http://opiniojuris.org/2010/10/24/philippines-supreme-court-threatens-law-faculty-with-contempt-after-allegations-of-judicial-plagiarism/). She asked that I bring this to everyone's attention, since "this blog is getting only side of the story". If you scroll to the bottom of the original post, you will see four links to letters and articles with different perspectives.

Please note that I am sharing this out of consideration for my colleague -- doing so does not reflect my own thoughts on the matter one way or another.

Carl

Subject: [IntLawProfessors] More on UP from Opinio Juris

Greetings colleagues,

Professors Evan Fox-Decent (McGill) and Evan Criddle (Syracuse) write more on Opino Juris today about the University of Philippine's College of Law drama surrounding the allegations of plagiarism. See http://opiniojuris.org/2010/10/26/holding-the-up-law-faculty-in-contempt-would-be-a-grave-mistake/

I fully support Sandy's suggestion, but I too am not well placed to take a laboring oar at this time. Others?

Kind regards,
Don

Diane Desierto gives a very full account, and I agree with Julian Ku
that international law scholars should come to the support of the UP
faculty. I would think that a short but powerful letter addressed to
the court but simultaneously made public is one effective way to do
that. I don't have the time or expertise to write such a letter, but
will sign one.
Are there any international organizations or associations of
supreme courts or domestic courts that should be enlisted? Any
international academic organizations?
