In response to my email to them regarding the ACS' pathetic effort last
week, I just received an email from the Queensland DP's Office:

"On behalf of the Deputy Premier, Treasurer and Minister for State
Development, Trade and Innovation, thank you for your correspondence of
19 August 2006, regarding and Australian Computer Society media release
'ACS delivers TIPI National Statement for Governments of Australia.'

"As this matter falls within the portfolio responsibilities of the
Honourable Chris Cummins MP, Minister for Small Business, Information
Technology Policy and Multicultural Affairs, I have forwarded your
correspondence to Minister Cummins' Office for consideration and direct
reply."

Signed by one Robyn McLeod, admin officer from the DP's office.

There is a surprising amount to be gleaned from this otherwise worthless
snippet.

1: The ACS managed to give their document to the wrong Minister.

2. The DP probably never saw my email.

3. The DP's office doesn't know much about email. The above text was not
in the email body, as it should have been. No, it was in an attached
PDF, which was in turn a single graphic incorporating logo, text and
signature, and weighing in at over 300K.

5. The Queensland Government doesn't see IT as particularly important
anyway, lumping it in second place into a catch-all ministry along with
small business (!) and multicultural affairs.

6. The Queensland Government is dangerously close to catching the weasel
words disease, having a ministry that contains in its title the now
meaningless and offensive word "innovation".

Regards, K.
