Gee so young :)

Nope, didn't eve have telecom. Telstra took over the AVCC "aarnet" network
in 1996. Prior to that Telstra didn't sell an IP service.

ozemail stole my trademark - have a look in a 1989 APC magazine and you'll
find my ads for OzEmail :)

Go back to 1988 and you'll find the OzSys ads :)

Connect also managed the .net.au name space and I'm pretty sure Robert gave
that admin control over quite early in the 1990s. But again, I think
Robert Elz can answer the question on the first SLD's and 3LD's far easier
than our own speculation.

A quick hunt around and the first domain name advertised in Australia was
by a client I managed in 1990 :)

ABC.NET.AU was originally assigned because it was used internally by ABC
for all it's hosts and servers. Instead of creating annoying duplicity
internally they just used the ABC.NET.AU name for public access to their
public resources and it's stuck ever since. Why register a second name huh?
