I don't think so, Brendan. The horror stories still came out about
how dysfunctional they are, even if rigging them isn't as pervasive
as was thought. My favourite was the power outage in Colorado due to
floods. No one could vote!

There were worse dirty tricks, like changing the enrolment periods
(sound familiar to somewhere closer to home?), disenfranchising
people if they didn't have their voting card with them (think ID
card), the infamous gerrymandering of districts, etc.

I think this only goes to show how pissed off the independents were,
the determination of the Democrats to show up in droves, and the
disenchantment of even the Republicans on some issues.

Fact: Not a single incumbant Democrat lost their seat. (I read that
somewhere before all results were in, so things may have changed
later on some of the last undecided seats)

I woke up with a smile on my face when I heard that George Allan from
Virginia had conceded and it was a clean sweep. I may be able to
consider stepping foot back in the country some time after 2008,
probably 2009 when there is also a new group in the White House.

Jan (who is regaining a bit of faith in her countrymen and countrywomen)
