Actually, they cause a great deal of damage to the environment as it is now.
They make large tracks through the scrub, damage water course banks, pull
grasses out by the roots or crop it so short it doesn't recover, resulting
in eventual loss of top soil. As with all animals, in small numbers the
damage is minimal and naturally repairable, in large numbers as we often see
during dry times and good, they can cause a lot of damage.
