in a previous message, i said i couldn't recall one web site which relied on
javascript where the js wasn't more of a hindrance than a help.

i forgot about google maps.

that is one such site. javascript there is both useful and necessary
to get the job done (actually, it could be done with image maps but it
would be a lot clumsier).

Google Maps is an exception, though, not the rule. and a very rare
exception at that. most sites use javascript for no user benefit
(and often to the user's detriment by spying on them or serving
advertisements or forcing them to do things in some stupid way).
