have you encountered RTM?

    http://www.rememberthemilk.com/

It's developed locally, and is almost totally AJAX.

I just logged in, added 5 tasks, edited their recurrence frequency, due
date, and more; added and named 3 locations, hooked those tasks to
locations, added a couple of contacts, added those to a task, and sent an
invite to someone else ... not one page reload in the whole experience,
which due to no page reload refresh delays felt very smooth, and very fast.

It also shares out it's data via iCalendar and RSS/Atom, and uses Google
Maps to specify locations, and you can even allow other services to access
your data on your behalf without giving away your private password. They've
also added a Google Homepage gadget, for those folk that have a Google
Personalized Homepage.

Hits a lot of the Web 2.0 bullet points.
