Haven't most laptops moved to NOT having clock/parameter RAM  
batteries by now? I've got a large collection of pre- and post-2000  
laptops that no longer use internal batteries to store these types of  
settings, but rely on either capacitance, or a trickle from the  
removable/rechargable battery.
