Stephen,
It is the Board of Telstra's role to supervise the managment of Telstra
on behalf of shareholders.
The current shareholders include:-
*Individuals who own shares either purchased in T1, T2 or on the market
*Managed & Super Funds
*The federal government on behalf of the voters of Australia holds the
major share and appoints directors
After the sell off of T3 the federal government will be replaced by the
Future fund as the major shareholder, for two years at least. The
question is whether there will be a change in the board - which appoints
the CEO and approves the direction and risks they are taking the
organisation through.
Perhaps we should be directing our concerns, based on whatever interests
we have in Telstra through the appropriate channels.
It was interesting to hear the Chair of the Future fund, David Murray,
the ex CEO of the Commonwealt Bank say he recalls stoushes with the ACCC
through the privatisation of the bank.
We could look at the ACCC as well....but someone else can do an
explanation of their role....
