Maybe they are hoping that new stuff will be enough to drive the market.
No new stuff unless you buy this new player. Or the trial is really just
to see how it goes, with the real intention not so much DVDs as some new
tech coming online, like BlueRay or whatever the heck the next thing is.

Who knows.
