Its important to also say 'please remove this number from your list'
Some of them must be able to, because I get very few telemarketing 
calls, and at one pointed I moved to a house and got a new number which 
must have been sold on every list available, it rang so often :(
I was able to get it down to almost nothing by persistently asking them 
to remove the number.
