g'day, Charles. What part of 'don't bother me' does the Minister not
understand? I do NOT want to get unsolicited phone calls from anyone
at any time and I suspect that many families do not want to be
bothered by these pests on potentially the one day of the week that
they have to spend together, given the loss of protection from
working on Saturdays as a result of the same government's Work
Choices (sic) legislation.

What sort of communication and with whom at ACMA should receive
public protests against her request for this change?

>POLLSTERS may still be able to call on Sundays despite Federal
>Government moves to protect householders from nuisance telemarketing calls.
>
>It wants to ensure pollsters can generate accurate political opinion

>
>The Communications Minister, Helen Coonan, has asked the main
>telecommunications regulator to drop a planned ban on pollsters
>calling voters at their homes on Sundays.
>
>The Australian Communications and Media Authority's new standard is
>part of the Government's do-not-call register, which will let
>householders put the equivalent of a "no junk mail" sticker on their
>phones from the end of next month.

>If the authority accepts Senator Coonan's proposed changes it would
>allow pollsters and market researchers to call householders between
>9am and 5pm on Sundays, including households on the register.
