there are numerous alternatives to xen.  CPU support for virtualisation
is useful, but not essential. vmware, for instance, has been around for
several years - long before any of the recent generation of CPUs with
VTX...in fact, it was the existence of vmware and similar that inspired
Intel & AMD to add support for virtualisation to their CPUs.

people have been doing exactly what i suggested for years in order to
run MYOB or one or two other "must-have" windows applications on their
linux machines.

for business apps, it works well...not so good for games or other stuff
that requires direct access to the hardware.
