[LINK] Idea for: Proposed power supply standard

Linkers,
I'd like to put forward a possible design for your thoughts.........

Most of the talk with low votage had centred around the loss
associated with long run low voltage power.

So a system to work in parallel with the 240VAC system, maybe:

24volts AC supplied by a 1:10 transformer installed somewhere, maybe
in the roof cavity with necessary temperature and current cut-outs.

10 Amps nominal - how many appliances need more than 200 or 300mA?
A plug and socket system to be similar to existing 240V plugs, but
with a different pin design - I think that such a beast already
exists being a T shape configuration, like so: | -

Any appliance which needs 24V AC could plug directly in, and lower
voltage available through a considerably smaller plugpack. The
plugpack could contain a rectifier bridge where DC is required, and
one or more voltage regulators.

A system like this could easily be installed in most loungerooms and
bedrooms. Retrofitting could also be achieved by providing a 6 way or
8 way plugboard similar to that found behind almost 100% of
computers, but this would be 240V in, 24V out.

24V can also drive lighting, but I have no idea if this would improve
or remove the efficiency associated with fluoro lights and so on.
