It probably went the way of the platinum stove pipe.  Until the early part
of the 20th century, platinum was a cheap metal used to coat iron to stop
corrosion.

People made fortunes later scavanging old rubbish dumps and picking out all
those shiny stove pipes from the old wood stoves.
