We've strayed a bit from the original discussion. Originally I just took
issue with the idea that videoconferencing was a business-only thing,
because I think, made easy and cheap, there is nothing that says it
would remain so. I'm not pushing videophones or videoconferencing as a
killer app for high bandwidth.
I personally neither know nor care whether VP/VC will make it or not. I
do have a problem with people saying "that won't work" about technology.
If it breaks a law of physics, OK. If is clearly against the way people
operate, then maybe (but I don't find that as clear cut).
Privacy and our notions of it are already massively different to what it
was just a couple of decades ago. I don't accept privacy as an argument
against any particular technology being able to get a grip on us all. It
might be a good argument about whether it *should* be used, but it is a
non-issue as far as whether it *will* be used.
