Hang on, let's separate the threads here...

One issue is whether there should be such a thing as "ownership" of this
thing that's being called "intellectual property" and, if so, how it should
work.

Another is what the penalty should be if "the deal" or "the social compact"
or whatever is broken.

And the third issue is about how these issues are handled trans-nationally,
triggered by the treatment of the chap in this particular case.

I reckon that jumbling them all together is causing confusion.

Yes, that's how this thread started. But knowing how Link works, I wouldn't
be surprised if it morphed into a discussion of llama breeding or something.
