I'm on a committee developing a Privacy Code of Practice for RFID at
Retail pos. It's been in development for years. Just as we think the
code is ready to be put to bed, something else comes up. Last month
the issue was online stores. Today's issue was use of RFID tags in
vending machines. It's like a damn pandora's box! The turnover of
people on the code team means that every time we get close and a new
set of eyes get involved, the discussion returns to debates that were
settled in the beginning, or at least were thought to be by someone.

The sad part is that this code is ONLY for retail, not medical, not
phones, not cards of any type, not networked devices, or any other of
the umpteen examples on Geoff's list. Where is that leadership going
to come from for regulating this technology? There is NO government
effort that I'm aware of to deal with it. And now there are moves to
increase the wattage levels from 1 to 4 watts without a special licence.

Geoff, maybe you know of a group where this is taking place?
