I was mucking around with Picassa and it told me there was a new
version and asked me if I wanted to update so I said OK and
apparently got "Google Updater" as well. Since I run Little Snitch
and rarely let stuff just connect willy nilly I started getting lots
of connection attempts from "Google Updater". This continued long
after picassa had been updated. I started to get annoyed. This was
apparently running a very talkative daemon without having asked me.
Grrrr....
I haven't found where it starts up - MacoS X has lots of little start
up nooks not all of which I have found yet. (I still don't know how
the Brother software starts up either. So at the moment I'll just
have to kill the daemon whenever it starts up.
This is from the Google Updater page. I still want Picassa and
Google Earth but I don't much like Google Updater and will nobble it
if I have to have it.:

How do I uninstall Google Updater?
To uninstall Google Updater, you first have to uninstall other Google
software on your computer. You can't uninstall Google Updater while
you have Google software on your computer because we need it there to
keep your software up-to-date.
1. In Google Updater, click My Software List.
2. If you have any Google software (other than Updater), click
it, then click Uninstall.
3. Click Google Updater.
4. Click the Uninstall button. If asked, enter an adminstrator
account name and password.
