why would they?  I have used this function for years.  Essentially html 
display is turned off in View, by me, and on a message by message basis 
I may choose to use the View function to display an email in HTML.

Mostly I dont bother, but it is handy from time to time as you've so 
recently discovered :).

Given that Mozilla has cast adrift thunderbird I am currently pondering 
options for the future, I tried evolution on windows about 6 months ago, 
it was terrible under XP kept crashing, perhaps it's improved?  I am 
still moving at snails pace towards Linux Mint so need a client that is 
available in both windows and my chosen distro.
