One of my first IT memories in Australia was one day when I was
arriving at my flat in East St Kilda on Chapel St. The guys were in
the street installing cable. This was 1995. I actually stopped and
asked them: "what are you putting in? Fibre?" I thought I was coming
to a place of really good technology after all. And the answer I got
will not surprise anyone on here. It was that hybrid coax stuff,
can't recall the name. I asked, "if you're opening the street and
installing all this (I think it was the pay TV install), I said why
not do it right?" Of course they laughed as they had nothing to do
with it and I was stupid to even pose the question.

Our truest response to the irrationality of the world is to paint or
sing or write, for only in such response do we find truth.
