And for those who need reminding that government infrastructure planning
has always been a hit-and-miss affair at best, the trams were removed at
the end of a major investment programme to replace the crumbling wooden
sleepers with concrete. They just poured asphalt over the tracks in many
places. The tram trip to The Gap and Watsons Bay was my favourite outing
as a 5 year old - especially the patch of remnant forest the tram route
went through just before the terminus.
