Dear Link members, I have recently subscribed to this mailing list. For
those of you who are in Sydney on the 23rd of July, 2008, there is a seminar
on location privacy issues.
The explosive growth of location-detection devices and location-aware
computing means information about an individual's movement whether carrying
a mobile phone, driving past an automated toll booth, using a debit card, or
using a GPS navigation device is stored and can be used to make inferences
about their identity, activity and behaviour. The risks associated with
these scenarios have not been fully recognised or understood and raise
ethical, legal and professional issues for those involved.
The School of Surveying and Spatial Information Systems, UNSW and the
Cyberspace Law and Policy Centre (UNSW) is organizing a seminar, sponsored
by OMNILINK Pty. Ltd, to discuss location privacy issues, and you are
invited to attend. More information is also available at
www.gmat.unsw.edu.au/lpseminar , you can also view the seminar flyer here,
