Hard experience? 

As a Linux user with a generic MP3 player (iriver T30) I cannot access most podcasts from most US universities - simply because they are distributed through iTunes. 

I will defer to someone with better knowledge on whether it is the iTunes client which is the issue rather than the iP*.
