[LINK] 'Net filters "required" for all Australians, no opt-out

A correspondent has reported that they could not reproduce the hit on
the "Chilling Effects" notice with the "Kevin Rudd" site:org search.

I found that I also could not reproduce it if I had google strict
filtering switched on, but with the moderate filtering or not filtered
options, I could.

I also got positive hits on these search arguments:

"Kevin Rudd" site:org
"Julia Gillard" site:org
"Stephen Conroy" site:org
"John Howard" site:org
"Australian Politics" October 2008 site:org
"Australian Politics" July 2008 site:org

but not:

"Malcolm Turnbull" site:org
"John Faulkner" site:org
"Australian Politics" August 2008 site:org
"Australian Politics" 2005 site:org
"Australian Politics" 2006 site:org
"Australian Politics" 2007 site:org

An interesting aspect is that notice 1161 is not dated, but the
surrounding notices 1160 and 1162 date from early 2006. My reading is
that Google is using the notice 1161 to cover all notifications from
IWF, irrespective of when they were actually received.

Of course, I am not suggesting that there is anything sinister in the
fact that these particular searches are blocked by Google - a child
pornographer could easily have sprinkled these names into the
offending item. The fact that the offending item is filtered out by
the strict filter, prior to the IWF-inspired filter kicking in tends
to suggest that the offending site had already tripped the Google porn
filter.
