Josh has provided a link to his excellent potted history of the evolution of auDA.  However he has perhaps not captured all of the colour and light of that first meeting of auDA in Melbourne, notably the appearance of one Albert Langer who conclusively refuted the myth that old lefties turn into boring conservatives.
