Nope. It's happened before. When McMahon challenged Gorton the vote was
tied. As chairman Gorton used his casting vote  to elect McMahon and defeat
himself. I was in Kings Hall at the time waiting on the result and rushed
off to spread the news. When I found out ten minutes later that they had
elected Gorton as McMahon's deputy I couldn't stop laughing. Sure enough
Gorton kept white-anting McMahon and eventually McMahon had to sack him.
Politics as farce.
