Melbourne metro is the same, and even farther out in some 
circumstances (Stony Point line down the Mornington Peninsula for 
one). I don't think VicRail tickets cross over to Met because they 
are different companies, but all Met services [train, bus, tram] are 
included for a day pass of full fare just over $10. Discounted 
tickets are available for those groups you mention, of I think $3 
now. They went up last year.

The problem is that we have two zones still. We used to have three, 
but that changed last year I think. I was in zone 3, so it used to 
cost me quite a bit more. Now I pay about 30% more than the inner 
areas of zone 1 unless I stay in zone 2. I don't think Myki is doing 
away with the zones.
