I am a one of a minority here I guess.
I read my email through PINE on my Solaris workstation at work.
I SSH into it from my Mac at home and do the same.

I have multiple IMAP mailboxes setup for the various mail I get,
including my ISP.

I have a profile setup in PINE to fix my sender address to appear
to come from a different sender depending on what mailbox I am in.

I use email extensively. I've got PINE setup to display about 40
different MIME types including video, web links, word docs (via openoffice)
and so on.

On my Mac, I use NeoOffice.

I have never had a virus or been compromised in my life.
I do not use twitter, write blogs or use social networking sites.

But I do know how to make them work, run on a webfarm and build
a highly optimised web stack to make that stuff go. But I don't
use much of the content.

Without taking too much more of your time,
I also use Firefox on both the Solaris box and Mac.
I use a version of Firefox 3 created by a guy from Sun in Beijing.

My Sun box runs Solaris 10 and is an asset to me.
My mac is 10 years old now and is ready to retire but it is a warhorse.

There ya go...
