Most of these seem reasonable to me.  

Allowing links is just going to encourage PR/spam attempts, and since
link targets can easily be changed we'd be sure to get a "PM links
to porn" story at some point if links were allowed.

Only allowing comments for a limited time period is quite common
practice on blogs, I think largely to prevent having to protect old
posts from spam.

I don't know about the 300 word limit, though.  And the restriction
on references to parties and politicians is going to be interesting.
