This might sound naïve, but surely Winders and other non-Mac Unix
machines have simple software that can show your external IP address
in realtime, all of the time? Without resorting to external websites?

I use bwanadik on my Macintoshes (the name itself is interesting
enough!) which tells me not only my internal and external IP
addresses, but alerts me when either changes, in whatever way I want -
but it's always present in my menubar, checking my computer's network
interfaces for any sign of a change.
