If a school applies sanctions to any student for any reason it had
better be supported by *law*.

Thanks - but it's not conclusive and provides no references.

I'm still looking; there really seems to be no actual legal framework to
support school uniforms. That is, they can be encouraged, but they
cannot be enforced (and the line between the two is often *deliberately*
blurred, both by the Department and by individual schools).

Again, I am not talking a position on the matter of uniforms; I am only
seeking to know whether a student may legally be *required* to wear one.
Note: OH&S requirements, "sunsafe" clothing and other oft-quoted
"reasons" for a school uniform are furphies; non-uniform clothing is
perfectly capable of fulfilling those sorts of requirements.
