Well, it may be an urban myth but as a mother of 3 on a limited budget  
some years, I can definitely tell you that having a school uniform is  
a huge budget saver.
... Except for those despotic, moronic teachers who insist my children  
remove a non-school jumper in the middle of winter (the lose the  
expensive genuine ones and I can't always replace them straight away)
(The children's instruction is that the teacher must give them the  
instruction in writing. Unfortunately the kids aren't always bold  
enough to stick to their guns. They are supposed to be far more afraid  
of me than some teacher, dammit!)

Mind you, I can't explain the Ferny Grove mother who was in the paper  
this february saying back to school cost her $5K in uniforms for her 3  
- can't imagine what she bought! I splurged $400 and we were done.
