Urban myth: it actually works out cheaper to buy uniforms since they  
actually last longer and don't have to have 'designer $$$ labels'.  
Buying second-hand uniforms is cheaper still.

(speaking as a parent who has had direct experience over the past 18  
years, and with no interest in the views of those who believe uniforms  
are good/bad/evil/illegal/legal/dictatorial/whatever...)
