Linux & FreeBSD support (some?) Lucent Winmodems these days.  I'm not
familiar with the details though.

Having said that, I'd still prefer an old full-bananas external modem.
They can be found quite cheaply, especially second-hand, although they
never seem to last very long in my personal experience.  Maybe I just
had a bad run.

>From memory, US Robotics were the Rolls Royce of modems back in the
BBS days.  :-)
