I don't believe that building custom information applications for
mobile content is flawed (or a waste of money), either.

The ABC have a charter to disseminate information to the public, using
whichever tools the public are using.

Whilst their 'normal' mobile phone web interface is appalling, their
iPhone application is very different, and actually works. I see very
few similarities, apart from the actual content delivered is the same
in places (obviously).

As for suggesting that the ABC should 'fix A before delivering B',
this assumes that the organisation can only devote one set of
resources to a particular issue, which is patently absurd.

I also see nothing wrong in building services for one brand of phone,
if there is enough of a market to justify it, and I'm sure that as a
business, the ABC would not put thousands of dollars into building an
interface that is likely to be seen by a few eyes only.

The ABC Board, and the management, have the imperative to spend their
taxpayers' money wisely, and if they did not, the public would be in
an uproar, and our federal pollies would be introducing draconian
measures to oversee the board by ensuring that board members were hand-
picked by the pollies themselves...
