David - Dick Smith sells Eeprom writers. ($178.00)

Second hand TIVOs from the states can be had for $25.00 (with flaky
hardidsk)

Eeprom chips are $24.00.
Remove EEProm - insert into reader/writer.
Eeprom can be read and then written in about 3 minutes - voila -
american version........ Inside a PAL TIVO AND.... American remote has
the skip the adverts button.

Then throw away american TIVO - its NTSC so not much cop. But the EEProm
is Transmission standard independent.

Not that I am advocating anything illegal - you just asked for a hacker
- and I responded as to how a self altered configuration as delineated
above is actually a better idea.
