Those hackers you need are on the second floor of the ANU Computer
Science Building, North Road, Canberra. Andrew "Tridge" Tridgell and
Bob "The Builder" Edwards, hacked the TiVo to get it to work in
Australia and added an Ethernet interface, before TiVo did:
<http://www.samba.org/%7Etridge/tivo-ethernet/>. They are running an
open source software course starting 14 April 2009
<http://cs.anu.edu.au/students/comp8440>. Perhaps they will be
teaching a little TiVo hacking? ;-)
Please note that this is hacking in the sense of enthusiastic
software development, not acting unlawfully.
ps: I have one of the newer Australian TiVos. I can use my 3G
wireless link to download TiVo's offering of movie of the week (takes
a few hours), but these are of old, dull movies. Being able to get
some interesting content would boost TiVo in Australia. As an
example, it would be good to be able to watch community TV,
downloaded from the Internet.
