The thing about using Twitter is that by adding your links via a tweet  
into the one messaging system, you get a whole raft of access methods  
-- web, Twitter clients, RSS, API calls into the Twitter database, SMS  
and then through third-party add-ons email etc etc.

You also have the "social sharing" aspect of people being able to  
retweet your stuff with a single click.

The low-overhead thing is really important and often overlooked. It's  
key to why information spreads so fast using Twitter. That and the  
fact that everyone's networks overlap with each other serendipitously.
