every time i see news reports about newspapers and other publishers
whinging about google indexing their stuff, i've thought that google's
best and most appropriate response is to say "you don't want us indexing
you? fine, no problem. done".

(and as the article mentions, all it takes is a couple of lines in a
robots.txt file to keep google out of your web site)

then wait for them to start whinging that they didn't really mean it.
it won't take long. at worst, if they're stubborn as well as stupid,
they won't be around for much longer so there won't be anything to index
anyway.

same applies to other search engines, of course.
