This discussion is overlapping with an interesting speech I read from
Charlie Stross (a good Sci-fi author) in which he looks at limits to growth
for computing and how it will impact the industry:

His analogy with the aircraft industry is nice.
Up until the 1960s it was all about going faster, now it is about
efficiency, scale etc.
I think the Atom processors are a sign that we are starting to move in a
similar direction, that is the processor is fast enough for most tasks so
efficiency , cost and power become issues.
