It's a risk management strategy. I have put on the blocks that Craig 
mentioned and most of the time they work great. I only allow 
individual js to run if I recognise. I don't allow google-analytics, 
and most of the time all works well. I don't get annoying popups. I 
do have to allow for navigation if I need to go elsewhere on a site, 
but if I don't I don't turn it on.

I also use flashblock so none of those load without permission. I 
therefore am not wasting bandwidth downloads for things I may not 
want and didn't know would be there. I pull, they don't push. I 
wonder what the effect on overall traffic would be if everyone used 
that little gem?

But you're right. The best we can do is use the network of contacts 
and advise folks of their options. Maybe a 'viral message' on 
facebook or youtube? ;-)
